Traditional and Custom Sizes
Tatami mats traditionally come in standard sizes, the most common being:
-
Kyōma (京間) – approx. 955mm × 1910mm
Common in western Japan, such as Kyoto. -
Edoma (江戸間) – approx. 880mm × 1760mm
Common in eastern Japan, including Tokyo.
These sizes were originally based on the dimensions of traditional Japanese rooms.
However, in modern times, tatami is often made to order to fit the specific dimensions of each room.
We custom-cut mats to fit around pillars, walls, and irregular corners, ensuring a perfect fit even in uniquely shaped spaces.
At our shop, we can produce tatami up to 1950mm × 970mm, and in any shape, including squares.
